Travellers who want more than the ferries pick this inland-and-fjord route between Stavanger and Bergen. Head into Ryfylke past Svandalsfossen's roaring stairs, climb toward Røldal's stave church, then drop to Odda at the head of the Sørfjord, Trolltunga country, before following the Hardangerfjord north to Bergen. Two days is comfortable; the waterfalls are at their fullest in early summer.
