Linking Lom with the inner Sognefjord at Skjolden, Sognefjellet climbs to 1,434 metres between the highest peaks in Norway, with the glaciers of Jotunheimen crowding both sides of the road. Even in midsummer the pass is walled by snow. Sculptural rest stops at Mefjellet and Nedre Oscarshaug frame the wilderness and trailheads here lead deep into the national park.
