South of Stavanger the landscape flattens into Jæren, an open agricultural coast of dry-stone walls, big skies and some of the country's best beaches. The road runs close to the dunes and the North Sea swell, past the Kvassheim and Obrestad lighthouses. It is a gentle, year-round drive, beloved of surfers, kite-flyers and storm-watchers.
