While the cruise ships crowd Geiranger, the Hjørundfjord stays serene. Narrow roads thread the villages of Sæbø, Standal and Urke beneath the sharp peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps, Slogen, Saksa and Skårasalen rising almost vertically from the fjord. A small ferry links the shores and the whole valley feels a world away from the tourist trail.
