Climbing from sea level at Aurland to a stark, snow-streaked plateau before dropping to Lærdal, this summer-only road feels like driving across the roof of western Norway. Its showpiece is Stegastein: a slim timber platform that runs 30 metres out from the hillside and bends downward at the lip, leaving you suspended above the fjord with nothing but glass between you and the water far below.
