The easiest scenic escape from Tromsø. Drive out across Kvaløya ('Whale Island') to Sommarøy, a cluster of islets ringed by improbably white sand and clear blue-green water, tropical-looking until you dip a toe in. Stop at the beaches at Brensholmen and the bridge to Sommarøy for photos; in winter this is a fine, dark-sky aurora spot too.
